If you consider yourself to be a bit of an art buff, or are a total novice who’d like to know more, why not do something altogether different this weekend and head along to the Art Fair in the RDS. The ma-hoo-sive hall at the RDS will be with exhibits from some of the country’s most renowned artists, as well as some up-and-coming, and very talented newbies. There is tonnes to see and it will be a crash course in what’s happening in the Irish art scene. It’s a great spot to pick up some really unique Christmas gifts, and who knows, you might pick up something really special for yourself while you’re at it?
The Art Fair runs from Friday the 5th to Sunday the 7th of November, General Admission is €10 but check out our Facebook page to learn how you can win tickets to the event. For more information log on to www.rds.ie/artfair
Fancy your art with a bit of a kick? We might just have the place – The Absolut Collection will be showing in the newly-named Absolut Fringe Factory, Smock Alley Theatre, Temple Bar from September 5-20.
Ever since Andy Warhol received the brief, “Be inspired by the Absolut bottle,” way back in 1985, (such a fan was he of the vodka, he even used it as a cologne dontcha know) Absolut have been working with designers and artists to create new and interesting ways of depicting their bottle. Over the years 800 works have been created by over 350 artists and designers ranging from the not so well known to creative superstars like Gianni Versace, Manolo Blahnik, Prada, Tom Ford, Annie Liebowitz and John Galliano.
For the Dublin Fringe Festival, 16 Irish talents will add pieces to the collection. With the same brief as Warhol, the likes of fashion photographer Cliona O’Flaherty, visual artist Asbestos, graffiti artist MASER, fashion stylist Aisling Farinella and illustrator BRENB have created pieces that will hang among the classic works here in Ireland before being submitted for inclusion into the international Absolut Art collection in Stockholm.
So if you want to see a future masterpiece in the flesh, (with a dash of lime, on the rocks) get your ass to the Absolut Fringe Factory.
We featured our new fave artist Kate Westerholt in the August issue of STELLAR and wanted to share some more of her amazing pieces. Kate creates limited edition samplers -quirky versions of the classic Home Sweet Home wall hangings which can take Kate up to three weeks each to create.
With Blur’s Damon Albarn and Anna Wintour among her fans, we reckon an investment in one of Kate’s pieces, might just be a wise one…
