Great for a Ladies’ Day, glitzy wedding or fancy summer party, consider the dresses an investment, while a tad on the pricey side, they are statement pieces that you’ll wear forever. Well, eh, Style Wars…
If you’re just a tad addicted to Ireland’s answer to Project Runway, TV3’s Style Wars (we can’t get enough of the drama or enough of gawping at Caprice) then here’s your chance to meet the budding designers in the flesh and have them work their magic on you.
The folks at Lipton have teamed up with the show and the fabulous people at Fran & Jane to host weekly events in the Fran & Jane Dundrum Town Centre store. Over the next few weeks a different a different Style Wars finalist will be working as a stylist in the store each Saturday, offering tips and advice for the season ahead. And while you peruse the clothes, you’ll get to sample some Fruit & Herbal tea too…win-win if you ask us.
It’s all to celebrate the Lipton challenge on the latest airing of the show in which each of the finalists had to put together a Lipton Herbal & Fruit inspired look and create a headpiece, direct a photoshoot, and put together a magazine spread worthy of a glossy like STELLAR (phew, we’d need a cuppa after that).
And if you like what you see on the telly, you can win a Lipton inspired Fran & Jane ensemble all of your own. They’ve got seven up for grabs, so check out their Facebook page for details on the comp as well as info on the weekly store events.
Haven’t got enough of a fashion fix yet this month?
Well fret not my fashion fiends. Just check out style clinics latest ep. It’s tough to shop for clothes on EBay when you don’t know your correct shape, whether it be voluptuous or petite but with the latest installment of StyleClinic you can learn how to look banging no matter what shape or size you are.
In episode 3, stylist supremo Kim Gilbert gives us advice on how to shop and dress for your body shape. Kim points out the do’s and don’ts when shopping for apple and hourglass shapes whilst giving great tips when buying fashion fixes on eBay.
If you ever needed a reason to pop into River Island’s Ilac centre flagship store now you have one. The winner of the 2010 River Island Fashion Design Bursary, Sile O’Shea, was down unveiling her graduate collection in the windows for all to see.
Talented Sile from Pettigo, Co. Donegal was chosen from ten finalists to receive the bursary, winning £3000 and a paid 3 month internship in River Island’s cutting edge design studio in London- a dream prize for any budding Irish fashion designer.
Sile’s collection- ‘The Two Edith Beales’- was inspired by the 1975 documentary “Grey Gardens”, a quirky little film that designers as diverse as John Galliano and Marc Jacobs claim to also be inspired by (must check it out). Sile’s collection puts across a modern translation of the iconic style of the 1970s. She used key textiles inspired by the enigmatic Beale’s on georgette, silk satin and cotton, and contrasted with block colour silks, latex, Mongolian wool and leather.
Winning the sought after award which is now in its seventh year does wonders for the graduate student. It will mark the beginning of her journey with River Island, where her talent will be nurtured like previous winners who have gone on to make phenomenal contributions in the design studios at River Island.
Sile’s collection will be on display from Friday 25th of June to Thursday 1st of July. We’ve told you here first, she’s the next big thing.
You know it’s summer when your thinking about flip-flops especially when it’s the Havaiana brand. To make sure your tootsies are fashionably fab this summer get down to BT2 Grafton Street where they have brought us the famous ‘Make Your Own Havaianas’ (MYOH), the first one outside Selfridges, London.
This service allows customers to customize any pair of the cult Brazilian flip-flops in different colour soles and straps- that’s over 900 choices to choose from. With that many your nearly guaranteed that nobody else will have the same pair as you.
The onsite customising booth is where the straps can be decorated with a selection of over twenty-five various pins ranging from hearts and stars to quirkier designs, and even Swarovski crystals. Bling Bling! When we headed down to BT2 to see what all the fuss about we spotted that the most popular colour combination was a beige sole with a cream pearly finish strap- proving the nude trend is going nowhere for summer.
The Make Your Own Havaianas are in-store in BT2 Grafton Street since last Friday, June 4th and are priced from €25. With celebrity fans of the customised footwear such as Victoria Beckham, Dannii Minogue and Patsy Kensit already, these classic designer flip-flops are hard-wearing, durable and the ultimate fashion flip-flop. We already got ours so go on head to BT2, they’re definitely worth the investment.

We here at STELLAR Towers are all for spotting trends, whether it’s the latest microtrend for knuckle-dusters or our recent penchant for all things leopard print. So when this latest must-have began creeping in, we were all over it…so what is the latest object of our affection? The humble cup of tea.
Why is the cuppa so en vogue then? Well when cupcakes became bigger than Madonna last year, and the Laduree macaroon counter at Brown Thomas was as busy as the MAC counter, it was only a matter time before their perfect accompaniment – tea – achieved rockstar status too.
With hotels around the country offering the luxury service to rival the likes of Harrods and Claridges in London, Afternoon Tea has become an activity of choice for a growing number of hen parties. It seems in these cash strapped times, us ladies are on the lookout for new ways of achieving luxury and elegance, without having to fork out for a Chanel handbag.
Tea and cake is also an increasing first date and mate date option with our favourite Dublin hidden gem, The Cake Cake (shhh don’t tell anyone) and the Tea Gardens on Ormond Quay Dublin among many cafes doing a storming trade in quirky teas.
It seems Irish tea too is the choice of celebrities, with Sarah Jessica Parker recently admitting that the one thing she misses most about her Irish hideaway is a good cup of Lyons tea. As for Lovely Bones (we’d like to jump his lovely bones) star, Reece Ritchie, he recently told STELLAR that on the set of the movie Saoirse Ronan’s mother kept him in good supply of Irish tea while on set in the States.
And if you’re thinking that summer is more the season for cocktails than cuppas, think again. Lipton’s new range of Fruit and Herbal tea, is just the ingredient for some cheeky afternoon cocktails with your mates. Our fave is the Lipton Pink Citrus Daiquiri – to make four, here’s what you do…
Blend 8 Lipton Pink Citrus in 200ml of Hot Water
Let cool and then add:
100ml Grapefruit Juice
100ml Orange Juice
4 Shots of Rum
And then garnish with some orange peel and drink…
Details below for the ultimate tea fixes…
If your tastebuds should lead you to Taste of Dublin this weekend in the Iveagh Gardens, make sure you visit the Lyons Masterclass for tips on making the perfect cuppa from Lyons master tea taster, Caithriona Murphy, and the Lipton Garden Party to watch their regular fashion shows, and sip on a fruity tea cocktail.
