Miss Von Teese...

Alas, Halloween is over. But just when you thought you had to wait a whole year before it was appropriate to wear underwear in public again, along comes a glamourous event to have us stripping off faster than you can say Can Can.

In honour of the Moulin Rouge’s 120th bday, the fabulous peeps at The Dublin Burlesque Ball are hosting “A Prelude To Christmas” this Saturday (November 21st) in the Morrison Hotel on Dublin’s Ormond Quay.

This is a night out with a difference, and if you’re planning a girly one this weekend, this tops our recommendations. Like taking a step back in time, you get to glam up old school and feel like a lady.  We’re talking panties, corsets, retro dresses, and a lot of red lipstick and hairspray – we advise going all out of your outfit for this one, as those who dress ‘normally’ tend to stick out like sore thumbs.

While at 36-45 quid, the price is steeper than a nightclub, you are getting to see international burlesque performers (who by the way, are sooo sexy, you’ll be wanting to tassle-dance around a pole by the end of the night) so consider it more like going to a concert than just a club – you get a lot of burlesque for your buck.

And if you’re still not sold, we promise, guys look way hotter in dapper pinstripe suits than any other time, so if you’re out on the pull, it’s the place to score gents this Saturday night. (And if you don’t want a gent, there’ll probably be some of them too.)

So see you all there on Saturday…if you’re looking for us, we’ll be the ones trying to sit in our Martini glasses… x

Burberry

Burberry know the merits of the timeless trench and today they’re showing just how much love they have for this iconic wardrobe stable. They’ve just unveiled their new website theartofthetrench.com, a social networking site that will be ‘an evolving celebration of the iconic Burberry trench coat’. Users can view pics of guys and gals showcasing their beloved garment on the streets of everywhere from Sao Paulo to New York. Creative Director Christopher Bailey said that everybody has a different story related to their coat and loved the idea that people from all over the world could share these stories and images as well as capturing the different attitudes and expressions of the Burberry trench coat and the people who wear it. First up to snap people on the streets was The Satorialist’s Scott Shuman but the label have lined up plenty more to follow suit. Users are also able to submit their own images and leave comments! Check out the results at theartofthetrench.com

Cheryl Cole

Looks like Beyonce is following in Cheryl Cole’s footsteps! Last nights MTV European Music Awards in Berlin saw Beyonce take to the stage in a similar futuristic frock to the one Cheryl wore on last weeks X Factor by upcoming designer David Koma. Let’s hope she doesn’t get as big a slating as Cheryl did. What do you think… who wears it best?

You know us here at STELLAR Towers, we’re dedicated followers of fashion, eager to jump on the next harem pant, shoulder pad, or knee-warmer bandwagon, (well maybe not the knee warmers.) But there’s one trend that’s got us thinking, and not just about what shoes will match it. Ethical fashion is a term that’s been bandied about for quite some time now. Not just en vogue because some trendy celeb has been spotted in an organic cotton tee or vintage coat, this is one trend that might just have the sustainability to outlast the season.

However with lofty folks in far-off fashion capitals talking about organic this and ethical that, it’s tough for us lay fashionistas to know where to start in making practical, affordable steps towards a more sustainable wardrobe. Thankfully, a group of Irish ethicalistas (yep, it’s a word) have set up www.re-dress.ie  to sort out the fact from fibs and give you all you need to know for dressing ethically and stylishly in Ireland.

And for the thrifty among you, one upcoming Re-dress event might be the soundest wardrobe investment you’ve made all year. Rather than splurging 80 quid on another new dress, learn how to make 5 new dresses and more with the Crafternoon Tea Design Day organsed by Re-dress. You’ll get a crash course in all things up-cycling. Learn how to alter your existing threads, and begin to make new ones and with a follow-up intermediate course on offer, you’ll be a dab-hand at dress-making in no time.

See all the info on the flyer below, and happy stitching x

The olsens

Think big sunnies, you think the Olsen twins… and soon you can snap up a pair from their very own label The Row. The design duo MK and Ashley are branching out and adding four sunglasses styles to their clothing range – a classic metal aviator, vintage inspired brow line rims, 60s style round shades and oversized square frames. They’re concentrating on these for four for the mo’ as they tend to suit more than one face shape but are hoping to launch even more styles down the line. We can’t wait…
